Justina, Doula holding a clients baby after they had just given birth.

Justina Meadows

Hi! I am so glad you are here! My name is Justina Meadows, I am a Certified Holistic Birth and Postpartum Doula in Denver, CO and the surrounding areas.  My love and passion for birth equality, pregnancy, birth and postpartum came about after my 3 year career as a Child Protection Social Worker.  I have always wanted to help people but learned very quickly that, that is a system that is not built to truly help.  I knew that was not the career for me and I wanted something different.  I watched the documentary “The Business of Being Born” and was blown away by our current health care system and how it treats pregnant people and people in general.  From there I took a dive into what midwifery was and what doulas were and decided that I would be starting my own doula business and it was the best decision I have ever made.

Ironically, I first learned about birth and what OBGYN was in the 4th grade, when I did a project on Justina Ford.  “Justina Ford was an American physician. She was the first licensed African American female doctor in Denver, Colorado, and practiced gynecology, obstetrics, and pediatrics from her home for half a century.” (source: coloradoencyclopedia.org)

I have discovered that our medical system is causing more harm than good.  “In 2019, the maternal mortality rate for non-Hispanic black women was 44.0 deaths per 100,000 live births, 2.5 times the rate for non-Hispanic white women and 3.5 times the rate for Hispanic women. The increase in the maternal mortality rate from 2018 to 2019 for non-Hispanic white women was statistically significant.”  (source: CDC)  The United States, one of the most developed countries, ranks the highest for maternal mortality.

I truly believe that doulas are making a difference in these mortality rates and helping them decrease by educating, advocating and showing up for our clients.

My passion for health and wellness has always been present, especially after discovering Young Living and paying attention to the ingredients that are in the things we use daily.   We deserve to make decisions for our health, how we want to live, and how we want to bring our children into this world.

Birthing mothers should not have to save their own lives, as a doula, I will ensure that you are educated, informed, physically and emotionally supported and loved in preparation for the birth of your baby, the rebirth of YOU and the healing of you as you enter into Postpartum.  If you have any questions do not hesitate to reach out and ask.
